Signature fields often validate more than one property at the same time: file type, pixel dimensions, and maximum file size. A clear signature can still be rejected if any one of those values is outside the portal limit.
Use the portal as the source of truth
A 20 KB or 140×60 preset can be a useful starting point because those combinations appear in online-form workflows, but requirements vary by portal and can change. Read the current form first, then enter those values in the tool.
Keep it readable
Crop tightly around the handwriting, use dark ink on a clean background, and preview the compressed result before submission. If the portal allows a larger file ceiling, use the larger ceiling rather than compressing more than necessary.
